HGV firms losing money due to under-inflated tyres

Haulage companies are paying vastly increased fuel bills, by running trucks with under-inflated tyres.

Tyre manufacturer Michelin has launched a campaign to alert drivers to the potential savings which can be made by ensuring tyres are correctly inflated. Vehicles driving with not enough air in their tyres have increased rolling resistance, and this leads to an increase in fuel consumption. Although the campaign is also aimed at car drivers, the company says that there is also a dramatic impact on HGV’s. Michelin believes that haulage truck tyres under-inflated by as little as 10% could reduce fuel efficiency by 1.5%.

When you consider the level of expenditure on fuel within the haulage industry, the savings that could be made are obvious. Further saving can also be made on HGV insurance, by insuring with Quote Me Today. For low cost cover and professional advice, contact us for a HGV insurance quote .

Fourteen percent on the road with driving convictions

ONE in seven drivers in Britain no longer has a clean driving licence, according to new research – with the number of drink drive convictions on the rise. With the array of offences which you can gain points on your license for on the increase, this can make finding affordable insurance difficult. However you can find cheap Convicted Driver Insurance, which will help you if your current insurance company has increased your premium.

A study of nearly 3.5 million drivers found that 14 per cent admitted having one or more convictions on their licences, up five per cent on two years ago. Despite the rise in convictions, the research reveals that speeding has actually fallen from 86 per cent of convictions in 2003 to 82 per cent in 2005. So-called “amber gamblers” – drivers who run red lights – make up the next largest group, representing five per cent of drivers with convictions, down 0.1 per cent on 2003.

Worryingly the number of drink drivers has almost doubled, growing from 2.3 per cent of drivers with convictions in 2003, to four per cent in 2005. Typically across the country drivers with one conviction would have seen an increase of up to seven per cent on their insurance, while motorists with multiple convictions will have seen dramatic insurance hikes up to 20 per cent for two convictions and almost 50 per cent for three convictions.

Jason Markham of Quote Me Today insurance said “If you need Convicted Insurance at a price you can afford, we will be able to help”. So if cheap car insurance for convicted drivers is what you need, call us on: 0800 988 9255
