Haulage companies are paying vastly increased fuel bills, by running trucks with under-inflated tyres.
Tyre manufacturer Michelin has launched a campaign to alert drivers to the potential savings which can be made by ensuring tyres are correctly inflated. Vehicles driving with not enough air in their tyres have increased rolling resistance, and this leads to an increase in fuel consumption.
Although the campaign is also aimed at car drivers, the company says that there is also a dramatic impact on HGV's. Michelin believes that haulage truck tyres under-inflated by as little as 10% could reduce fuel efficiency by 1.5%.
When you consider the level of expenditure on fuel within the haulage industry, the savings that could be made are obvious. Further saving can also be made on HGV insurance, by insuring with Quote Me Today. For low cost cover and professional advice, contact us for a HGV insurance quote .
